Phone Compass Accuracy & Troubleshooting
The calculated bearing uses geographic coordinates and true north; the live needle relies on phone sensors and browser support. Magnetic north is not necessarily true north, so a separate compass may use a different reference. A moving needle alone does not mean the Qibla calculation has changed.
- Move away from metal surfaces, magnetic cases, speakers, chargers, vehicles and nearby electronics. Hold the phone level in an open area.
- If readings still jump, move the phone in a figure-eight pattern, use Recalibrate compass, and let the heading settle.
- Check the selected coordinates: your actual location is more specific than a city preset. If sensors remain unreliable, use the numerical bearing and Guided map, then verify with a calibrated compass using the appropriate north reference.

Why does the table show 252.6° but the summary says 253°?
The summary rounds to the nearest whole degree; the city table keeps one decimal place. Both use the same Doha coordinates and calculation.
Can I use this Qibla finder outside Qatar?
Yes. Current-location access and manual coordinates work worldwide; the Qatar cities are convenient presets.
Can I use it on a computer without a compass sensor?
Yes. You can calculate a bearing and use Guided map mode. A computer without a compass sensor cannot show which way the device is facing.
Will the tool work offline?
After a successful online visit, supported browsers can cache the Qibla page and reuse a saved location. Check the tool’s offline-ready status before relying on it without a connection.
Why do two phones show different directions in the same place?
Check that both use the same coordinates. If their numerical bearings match but the needles disagree, sensor calibration or magnetic interference may explain the difference.
Does Qibla direction change with prayer time?
No. For the same coordinates, the calculated bearing stays the same throughout the day. Prayer times tell you when to pray; Qibla tells you which direction to face.
